The 45th Annual International Bible Contest for Jewish Youth
Reports on the international Bible contest that brought sixty-one young competitors from thirty-six countries to Israel for written and public rounds, names the Israeli and Diaspora winners, describes the meetings with the president and prime minister, and explains how regional and national qualifying contests in the United States select the students who eventually travel to Jerusalem.
Adler recounts a Hidon HaTanakh in which contestants first sat a written exam on material prepared at home, then competed in separate Israeli and Diaspora rounds before a combined final held on Independence Day. He notes the three-way Israeli tie, the Toronto and Detroit winners among Diaspora entrants, and the eventual top placements. Alongside the competition the students toured the country and were received by Israel’s political leadership. He closes by encouraging Diaspora schools to run local contests, pointing out that students whose Hebrew is weak may study and compete in their own languages.
