Genesis I
A poem on the first chapter: creation as a statement of faith rather than a scientific account, the law of opposites running through the days, and reason, creativity, free will and imagination as the image of God. Dominion makes the human being God's partner in the material dimension — hence responsibility for air, water and the ecology of the earth, a burden that cannot be escaped.
In the beginning, darkness, water, formlessness
God begins to create based on the laws of physics
Without which the world cannot exist.
Creation is not a scientific account, but a statement of faith. Day and night, land and seas, sun and moon, mineral, vegetable and animal, Flying birds and creeping creatures.
Finally, human beings, male and female
The law of opposites which humans face and must recognize. Reason, creativity, free will, imagination, the image of God in the human being.
Forming the basic framework of man’s existence,
Who is given the dominion over the earth,
Transforming him into a partner of God
In the material dimension of life.
Hence, human responsibility for clean air, water, the ecology of the earth, A heavy burden for man to bear but who cannot escape it. Because of the inevitable decay of matter
As called for by the laws of physics
Man in his mortal, finite condition
Lives only for a fragment of time.
His physical needs and desires are too many
To fill his limited existence,
Leading to excesses and abuses of other mortals
To satisfy his desire for gratification, wealth and power, A desire to be alleviated by an act of God,
Subsequently offering higher values,
Morality, spirituality and Torah.
To control man’s impulses and
To aid his reason that has no connection
To human desires of love, feelings and ethical values Because reason cannot provide a reason to be reasonable.
